Advanced Therapy Solutions Occupational Therapist – AAC and Assistive Technology

Community-Based Services | Arizona
Ages Served: Children and Adults

Help Individuals Access Communication and Greater Independence

Up to $50 per hour, based on experience

Advanced Therapy Solutions is seeking a skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapist with an interest or background in Augmentative and Alternative Communication, assistive technology, and complex access needs.

In this community-based role, you will work closely with Speech-Language Pathologists, Physical Therapists, individuals, families, and caregivers to identify effective ways for each person to access communication systems and participate more independently in daily life.

You will support individuals with a variety of physical, sensory, motor, and functional needs by evaluating positioning, motor access, environmental barriers, and assistive technology options. Your clinical expertise will help ensure that communication devices and supports are accessible, functional, and personalized to the individual.

What You’ll Do

• Complete comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations for individuals with complex physical, sensory, motor, and functional needs
• Assess motor access, positioning, range of motion, visual-motor skills, sensory needs, and environmental barriers that may affect communication
• Collaborate with Speech-Language Pathologists to identify appropriate AAC access methods and communication supports
• Evaluate and recommend switches, mounting systems, alternative access methods, and other assistive technology
• Support trials and implementation of AAC devices and related equipment
• Develop individualized treatment plans that promote communication access, independence, and participation
• Provide community-based occupational therapy services for pediatric and adult populations
• Monitor progress, complete re-evaluations, and adjust treatment plans as needed
• Conduct home, school, and community-based environmental assessments
• Educate individuals, families, caregivers, and team members on equipment use, positioning, access strategies, and carryover
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
• Collaborate with medical professionals, equipment vendors, schools, families, and community resources
• Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, when applicable
• Travel throughout the assigned service area as needed

Specialty and Program Areas

Depending on your experience and interests, opportunities may include:

• Augmentative and Alternative Communication access evaluations
• Assistive technology evaluations
• Switch access and alternative access methods
• Positioning and seating for communication device use
• Custom wheelchair evaluations in collaboration with Physical Therapy
• Custom durable medical equipment recommendations
• Environmental access and adaptive equipment
• Feeding services in collaboration with Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology
• Community-based therapy services
• Telehealth services, when appropriate

What We’re Looking For

• Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
• Current Arizona Occupational Therapist license
• License must be active and in good standing
• At least one year of clinical or human services experience preferred
• Experience with AAC, assistive technology, complex access needs, seating, or positioning is strongly preferred
• Experience completing assistive technology evaluations is preferred
• Valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and auto insurance
• Reliable transportation for community-based visits
• Strong communication, collaboration, clinical reasoning, and interpersonal skills
• A dependable, organized, and compassionate approach to care
• A passion for helping individuals communicate, participate, and live more independently
